The Easter season is a time to dwell on the significance of Christ’s death and resurrection. However, it is always essential to start from the beginning of a thing or understand how it began to grasp its significance. Therefore, let’s start from the beginning.
After the earth and everything in it was created, God placed Adam and his wife, Eve, in the garden. He gave them everything at their disposal, except the Tree of Life (the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil). Yet, man fell for satan’s temptation and was driven out of the garden.
Even though God was unhappy with man’s wrong choice, He couldn’t let His creation, which He had crafted in His likeness perish. So, He being the true wisdom, designed a plan. That plan was to reconcile man back to Himself and restore man’s lost authority. Therefore, Jesus Christ came to earth. He lived, died, and resurrected so that you and I might be saved.
When Jesus died, He took to the cross all our transgressions. He who knew no sin became sin that we might be forgiven, thereby creating the provision for the forgiveness of sin whenever any man comes to the knowledge of Christ and genuinely repents. Christ’s death was the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin. Thus, no longer does man have to use the blood of animals to be free from sin or go through the high priest to gain access to God; Jesus did it all! So, when a person sins, all he or she needs to do is confess it and repent from it.
Jesus Christ’s death on the cross marked the beginning of a new life for mankind – the kind of life that God had predestined for “man”, that is, a life of victory and dominion on earth. He died so that all who believe could have life and have it to the fullest. Jesus died so that anyone could be forgiven, and He died to restore man to his rightful position. He died to reconcile man to God. Jesus paid the price for the world, yet not everyone believes in His death and that which He did.
Many are perishing today because they do not understand the significance of Christ’s death (Good Friday) and His resurrection (Easter). Little wonder, it is written in the Bible that “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” (Hosea 4:6 KJV). Jesus’ death gives man another chance at that life of fruitfulness, dominion, and connection with God. Yet again, God has given man the option to choose between life (relationship with God) and death (relationship with the devil).
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV).
Do you believe in Him, and have you accepted Him as Lord and Saviour?
God loves man so much that He gave His Son, even while we were yet sinners, to die for us. He was wounded for us to gain victory over sicknesses and diseases, and He rose to give all who believe in Him the power and authority to reign with Him. The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (which is what is being celebrated at Easter) defeated the power of death and confirmed God’s power over death.
Now, as believers, we know and are assured that there is resurrection after death. He resurrected to be seated at the right hand of God as our High Priest and intercessor. Jesus’ death and resurrection bring life and hope to everyone who believes and confesses Him as Lord and Saviour.
It is the mind of God that all of mankind believes in His Son, Jesus Christ because everything that God has for His children can only be got through His Son. And that is why there is no Christianity without Christ, for everything we have or can ever have is routed through Him. Hence, the Bible states that believers can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13) and can become the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).
It is important to stress at this point that although Jesus Christ died for all mankind, only those who receive and acknowledge Him as Lord can live this life of victory over sin, sickness, and death. Therefore, do not let the essence of Easter pass you by; receive this love of God, in the person of Jesus Christ into your heart and life today, and confess Him as your Lord and Saviour that you also may enjoy this God kind of life.
The first step is to say this simple and short prayer, “Lord Jesus, I repent of all my sins and ask You to forgive me of all my sins. I confess with my mouth that You are the Lord and believe in my heart that You died for me. Come into my life and make me Your temple and an instrument of Your glory. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.”
