About the Author

Dr. Nowamagbe A. Omoigui was an exceptional intellect whose achievements spanned medicine, history, and public service. Educated in Lagos and Warri, Nigeria, he graduated with distinction from Federal Government College, Warri at the age of 15, setting a historic record with a Grade A1 in Fine Arts.

He studied Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, graduating top of his class in 1981 and delivering the valedictory speech. During his national service with the Brigade of Guards, he gained firsthand exposure to military operations, coordinating a landmark air, sea, and land disaster drill and earning a National Award from President Shehu Shagari.

Dr. Omoigui later earned a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois, trained in Cardiology at Stanford University, and completed Interventional Cardiology training at the Cleveland Clinic. He became the first Nigerian immigrant to serve as Chief of Cardiology at the University of South Carolina. Alongside his medical career, he was a respected civil-military historian and member of the South Carolina Military History Club.
